Fashion;

My first week into the carosel was in fashion, i really enjoyed experimenting with materials and creating new pieces and outfits from old pieces, for example we had to re-create a garment from an existing pair of shoes and materials, clothing or bags.

Above is my final design i based this piece in a charcter from our fashion show in which we wore all our old materials to create a new look, our character was a pimp but a women therefore i based my design on a mysterious women in hiding and therfore wears masculin clothes to prevent being noticed.

UCA-Canterbury; Foundation in Art & Design

it's my first week into the course, firstly we are put into a group to start the carosel which we then do a week in each specialism for example, fashion (which i started in) viscom, fine art, photography,3d which at the end we choose what subject suits us most and we do the rest of the year in that specialism.

Igot put into a really nice group i found it really easy to fit in and make new friends, i really like meeting a wide range of people with all diffrent intrests and skills also people that where intrested in the same thingss as i am, i got to really know these people within the first wekk as we had to work within groups towards a piece of work that combined all our final ideas that where based around our summer enviroment project and the enviroment of the university.
Above is my final piece as a group all our work was of simular colours which meant they blended very well togther so we could easily lay them out just next to one another unfortunately i have no photograph of the layout.

Moving on;

I recently received a letter from  the UCA in Canterbury confirming my place on the foundation degree in Art & Design, i am really interested in doing this course as it will help me chose my path in the style of art. As currently i really like the illustrative style, although i am not confident in just going straight into a BA in illustration. As i feel i want to expand my portfolio, skills & techniques and i can do this in this course and widen the variety in my portfolio the course will also help me decide if illustration is really what i want to do or if there is another style i may enjoy more or be better in.

First year; Camo poster

Above, is  a Camouflage image i created in illustrator in the 1st year of my national diploma, i created by creating outlines around three different styles of bags then changing the opacity and layering them on top of one another, i then created a poster out of the CAMO by cropping the image and adding a Radley logo & product to create an advertisement for handbags.

Packaging; finals

Above is my collection of packaging for Asquith & Somerset soap company, a set of three different scents of soap, coffee & cream, apple & cinnamon & cherry & vanilla, i have changed the scents from my previous design's as the colours can now represent the scent of the soap, i also changed the label on the front of the packaging by removing the circular background behind the type to a simple rectangle shape to hold the type as it looks more sophisticated and professional, i also removed the imagery as the colours now represent the scent so they are not needed i also feel they made the product look at lower end of the market.

The Show; Putting up the show.

Above are images taken after we all helped to put up the show, doing jobs such as
printing work
mounting work
measuring the wall
adding artwork to the wall
collecting photo's of the class to upload onto an mac for visitors to see
creating websites to add to a mac for visitors to look at
cleaning up the work space ready for visitors
above, are pictures of the room once all the work had been put on to the wall ready for the show to start.

Narrative; Finals

Above is a materials techniques and processes experiment i scanned my narrative in and edited the levels in photoshop to clean up the hand made errors i then removed the type then by using the warp text tool i created type to flow in with the design and repeated it along the bottom of the design.

Narrative; Finals

Above are two of my finals for my narrative project they are collage illustrations of sections from the Roald dahl story George's marvellous medicine, my third illustration is currently up in the show i will add this at a later time.

FMP;final design

Above is my final idea as i posted before it is very similar to my oat idea i just added imagery to reflect the fashion side of things.

FMP; FINISHED

I have finished my FMP, i have many idea's i have created although i stuck with the design i had first but from feedback from tutors and other students i realised my past ideas didn't have any relevancy's to fashion just the trash side of things so in my design i added a image of a Gary Harvey recycled fashion model, if i had longer to do my project i would have created my own full size garment and arranged for a photo shoot so that all the photography was my own. however i created a book also including small cut out images of outfits i made from recycled materials & 3 doll (barbie sized) outfits to show how recycled fashion can still look glamorous.

FMP; Idea Generation

Here are two poster idea generation's i have created, i created them by scanning in a collage of materials i created by hand, i then placed the background into Photoshop where i added type over the background layer, duplicated the layer, & laid it over the type i then selected the type behind with the magic wand tool, i used the rubber tool to remove all the area around the type making the type filled with the background layer adding the material & recycled texture look to the type.

Type Poster; Re Assesment

Type project,
I found this piece of illustration in my project which i had done by hand so for my final i have scanned it in a vectorized it, i think it is stronger then my other hand idea that i have posted before as it didn't look like a poster it looked more like a logo, i really like the boldness and the colour is really eye catching & as the book is about hand made illustrations this poster would really reflect on that.

FMP; Carry On

For this project so far other than research i have created type by hand to create a trash/ rubbish effect by fine liner, i have also created garment idea generation using materials such as coloured paper & newspaper to give the recycled effect to the garments, i am going to scan some off this stuff in today and try and create a poster from a collection of rubbish i have stuck down to create a background, i will also add my hand made type to see if it works.

Monday 19 April 2010

FMP;

I have chosen to base my Final Major Project on recycled fashion, i will look into designers that use recycled materials to create their garments such as Gary Harvey i collected information from various websites about him, i am going to create a poster to advertise a recycled fashion show and also make a garment from recycled materials, i will collect different materials to see what materials can be used for what purposes and collected primary research from the V&A & The Science Museum, such as pictures and questionaire's about recycled fashion.

Narrative;

In this project i will chose three pieces of type from a book or song i like and illustrated them in an A3 story board or image for each piece of text.
I have chosen Roald Dahl's children's book George's Marvellous Medicine to base my illustrations on, i will experiment with different media to find the best one for my pieces of type.

V&A Finals

Here are my finals i created for Advertising the V&A i used a few iconic pieces from the V&A which will appeal to 11-19 year olds, my idea was hand illustrated and coloured in bright colours by hand to capture the eye, i then scanned my idea in and did a vector version, which made the lines alot neater and the colours bolder & flatter
.

I have also above shown how my illustration can be used on different types of media that the V&A might sell.

Web;Creating a Button.

Firstly i opened a Flash, i then made a shape, once i made this shape i clicked on the shape pressed CTRL & clicked on the shape to go down the drop down menu to convert to symbol, i then named the button & changed it's type to button, i then double clicked the shape to select it and pressed F6 to insert a timeline to the keyframe, now i can change the colour in the over state and you can do this in every state so the button changes in diffrent states.

Visiting The V&A;

Our new project is advertising, and the brief is to design an advertising campaign for the V&A museum, our aim is to attract young people from the age of 11-19 to the museum on their own or with college, telling them either about upcoming exhibitions, weekend free workshops & activities & free entry all the things that most young people didn't know and which might encourage them to go. I recently visited the V&A, to collect information about the museum, its collections & to find out what they are currently doing to advertise the V&A to young people. We met with Cara who works with the education side of the museum working to attract young people into coming to the museum about current advertising,activities and things the museum offer some of which we didn't know. we them collected pictures from the main exhibitions that would attract young people like the fashion collection& 20th century art, which will help in designing posters as we can pick icon images to use to represent the V&A at it's best for young people.

Websites;

I also looked at websites that are not created by flash such as bbc, itv and channel 4 this showed me how different they are from the websites created by flash as they are less original they all consist of the same columns and rows, they also stick to basic colour scheme and typeface.i think this is as bbc is a world based website and needs to be accesiacble to all ages and all types of people.

Flash Webistes;

I looked into different contemporary websites that used flash to create them, you can tell when they have been created by flash as the layout is generally unique and nothing changes when you access the website, i looked on this website that includes a range of different websites that included some of the best websites.
http://www.thefwa.com/
One of the websites that i really liked was the ADHEMAS BATISTA-IM SELLING COLOURS, website it was very bright and contemporary it is also very bold and inviting to the teenage audience it includes alot of work on products that are still around today and adds a unique edge to them with noticeable influences from psyhedelic art.

I also liked a few other website from the main link i have listed them below so you can look at the and see the simularities between flash create webpages and how they are compared to web pages which aren't created by flash.

Web Design; Reaserch into apllications and their files.

PSD- A PSD file is a data format which can be used on any machine which has Adobe Photoshop installed when you save a document as a PSD it keeps all the layers and content the same and you can go back to the document at a later date and edit it .

Ai-AI is a vector file format which is used in Adobe Illustrator and is used to store Adobe Illustrator drawings.

INDD- file is page layout project file generally created with Adobe InDesign. Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing (DTP) software application produced by Adobe Systems which can be used to create things such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines and books.

FLA-FLA files typically include vector image data for use in animations, timelines to control animation playback, and audio; they may also include "bitmapped" video content. FLA files may include or reference ActionScripts (similar to JavaScripts) to provide interactivity.1 FLA files are comparable to source code and are typically saved as Flash files for Internet delivery.

SWF-Small Web Format, The file format for playing Flash animation files (Flash movies). The Flash source file, which holds the timelines and multimedia elements, uses the .FLA (Flash Authoring) extension and is published to an .SWF file for playback by the Flash media player. Originally, SWF meant "ShockWave Flash," which was confusing because Shockwave is a different authoring package that uses the .DCR extension for playback files (see Shockwave). As a result, SWF was renamed "Small Web Format." Stand-alone Flash video files use the .

JPEG-The compression of an image so you can use the image on the web, although once the image is a JPEG you can no longer work on the image.
